Channel Islands are a group of islands in California that include Catalina Island. The island lies approximately 22 miles off the coast of mainland California. For decades, California's rich and famous have been playing here. For a while, Marilyn Monroe called the island her home.

Leaving from Catalina Landing near Shoreline Village in downtown Long Beach, the Catalina Express departs daily. The restaurant is located close to the Pike and Pacific Aquarium of the Pacific along the main waterfront. Several cities, such as Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego, provide easy access to the port. You can drive to the port from downtown San Diego in about 45 minutes.
Do Ferries Take Long Rides?
About an hour's ferry ride separates Long Beach and Catalina Island. Upon reaching Catalina Island, the ferry will drop you off in Avalon.
Ticket prices include carry-on luggage, however if you wish to bring your bike or surfboard, you will need to pay an additional $700. Upgrades can be purchased at an additional cost. Tickets upgraded to the Captain's Lounge cost an additional $120 per person, and tickets upgraded to the Commodore Lounge cost an additional $40 per person. The Dana Point ferry is slightly closer to San Diego, but Long Beach is the most popular and attractive port.

If you are driving to Catalina Express Long Beach San Diego, you should park your vehicle somewhere for your entire trip. At the Long Beach Port, overnight parking is available for $2295 per 24 hours. All major credit cards are accepted, and parking reservations are not required. It is only possible to park there for up to 30 days, so if you plan on staying all summer, you will have to find other arrangements.

Where to stay on Catalina Island
We recommend that you stay overnight on Catalina Island to really enjoy the island and experience all that it has to offer. Hotels of all kinds are available. For your trip to Catalina Island, here are some of our favorite places to stay. A majority of the hotels are intimate and small, with many beautiful boutique touches.
Catalina Island has plenty of things to do and see. Take a golf cart out around the island and explore the main town of Avalon and Two Harbors, which has restaurants, a bed-and-breakfast, and a general store. The beaches in both of these towns make for great vacation spots, but Two Harbors makes for an excellent base for boating, kayaking, biking, or hiking around the island.
Avalon has more hotels and dining choices than Two Harbors. A beach cabana at Descanso Beach Club allows you to relax or enjoy tasty cocktails.
During spring and fall, the weather is still warm, and you'll avoid crowds. During the months of April through May or September through October, consider planning your trip. There is no doubt that the winter months can be somewhat cold, with daytime temperatures in the range of 45-59 degrees. You will have a wonderful time on Catalina no matter when you visit!
